The ancient citadel of Bala Hissar, dating back to antiquity and towering over Kabul, was an active military site until presidential decree recognized its unique heritage value in 2018. Conflict and neglect left the site in a fragile state. The goal of this project is to create an archaeological park at the citadel. Archaeological investigations and documentation, stabilization of the archaeological remains, as well as setting up educational facilities and a heritage trail, will allow this remarkable site to open for the people of Kabul to enjoy.
