Emergency Inventory at the Herat Citadel

The project documented and improved artifact storage at the citadel of Herat, Qala Ikhtyaruddin, including inventorying architectural elements, gravestones, and tile fragments, some recovered from attempted illicit trafficking. Following condition assessments, minor storeroom repairs were made, a standardized inventory system introduced, and 219 objects cleaned, measured, photographed, labelled, and rehoused on new storage racks. Implemented over three months by six Afghan professionals, the project generated 267 workdays and delivered complete inventory records to authorities in Herat and Kabul.
