Evacuation of the collections of the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
The Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince holds one of Haiti’s most important art collections, with over 5,700 artworks and 3,000 archival documents tracing the country’s modern artistic history. Since March 2025, the collection has been at immediate risk due to escalating gang violence, which has made the area inaccessible. This emergency project will relocate the collection to a secure temporary site outside the city. In close coordination with the Haitian National Police, artworks will be evacuated in a single-day operation, transported under armed escort, and rehoused in a protected facility. The project will also improve storage conditions to ensure the collection’s preservation, with support from AFD, UNDP, FOKAL, and the French Embassy in Haiti.
