Gaza: Heritage for Recovery - Phase II
Gaza, Palestine
Two key historic sites in Gaza’s Old City—the Great Omari Mosque and the Dar Farah courtyard—remain at risk following extensive damage during the current crisis. Building on an ALIPH-supported, initial stabilization phase that cleared rubble and secured parts of the mosque, this project advances emergency consolidation, preventive conservation, and selective reconstruction. The intervention focuses on stabilizing damaged structures, safeguarding architectural elements, and enabling the safe, gradual reuse of the sites, including continued use of the mosque for religious practice. It also strengthens local capacity through hands-on training and collaboration, while transforming the Dar Farah courtyard into a hub for coordination and knowledge-sharing. Community engagement and documentation activities will support awareness and the long-term protection of Gaza’s heritage.
