Heritage for Resilience: Restoring El-Wehidi House in Gaza
This building of great historical, architectural, and aesthetic importance (some of its details and ornaments date to the early-middle Ottoman era, i.e. the 16th century) is located in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, a Gaza residential area. The building, already weakened by lack of maintenance and modern concrete additions, has been further endangered the last few years.
The project stabilized and restored the damaged building, which now houses the Basma Society. This local NGO is committed to building resilience in the Gaza Strip through culture and arts. The project was managed by RIWAQ and operated by the Iwan Center, with the support of the Palestine Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Gaza Municipality.
