HeritageWatch.AI: Detecting and Alerting on the Destruction of Cultural Heritage Using Artificial Intelligence

Cultural heritage worldwide faces growing threats from conflict, climate change, and natural disasters. This initiative, led by ALIPH with partners including Iconem, Microsoft, and Planet, uses AI-driven satellite analysis to better understand and respond to these risks. The project will produce thematic reports on climate-related threats—such as desertification in the Sahel and rising sea levels affecting coastal and island sites—as well as rapid assessments of damage following disasters and crisis. It will also develop a secure online platform providing real-time access to data and analysis, supporting informed decision-making for heritage protection and intervention.
