The Sursock Museum is a modern and contemporary art museum with a mission to collect, preserve, and exhibit local and international works. The 4 August 2020 explosion shattered many vitrines and frames displaying artifacts and damaged numerous pastels, drawings, and other paper-based works. An emergency mission was organized with a paper conservator to evaluate the most damaged pieces and recondition them. Approximately ten graphic pieces underwent emergency conservation.
