Mawrūth - Emergency Action for Yemen's Documentary Heritage in Tarim, Sayun and Aden
Yemen
Spanning over a millennium of history, Yemen’s public libraries and archives in Tarim, Sayun, and Aden hold priceless manuscripts—from early Qur’anic fragments to colonial-era documents. Many are at risk due to conflict, climate, and poor storage conditions. This project will assess damage, stabilize materials, and support six major collections: Al-Ahqaf Library in Tarim, the National Archive Centre in Sayun and four institutions in Aden (the ʿAbd Allāh Bā Ḏiʾb National Library, the Yemeni Center for Studies and Research, the Al-Ẓafārī Center for Research and Studies of Yemen, and the Library of the Court of Appeal). It will also provide equipment, preventive conservation, and staff training to safeguard Yemen’s written heritage for future generations.
