Nomad Games: Documenting and Promoting the Intangible Heritage
Kyrgyzstan
Ancestral practices exemplified through traditional Kyrgyz games are disappearing. The project documents and revitalizes the tradition of the games through five short films featuring narration, live footage, and animation. Featuring games like Kyz Kuumai (horse racing), Jaa Atuu (archery), and Chüko (knucklebone games), the film series will premiere at the 2026 World Nomad Games and be shared widely on television and digital platforms. By capturing the symbolism and values behind these ancestral practices, the project helps preserve Kyrgyz cultural heritage and its deep connections between people, nature, and community.
