Rehabilitating Private and Public Historic Buildings in Zabid
Zabid, Yemen
Zabid’s historical fabric is increasingly threatened by conflict, neglect, and climate-related hazards such as heavy rains and flooding. This project is implementing emergency interventions to stabilize around 70 historic houses and parts of the citadel. Works include strengthening foundations, repairing roofs and wooden beams, restoring walls and decorative elements, and applying traditional waterproofing techniques. Implemented with local partners, the project contributes to preserving Zabid’s architectural heritage while improving the resilience of its historical buildings.
