Rehabilitating the Tartus Museum
Tartus, Syria
The Museum of Tartus in Syria is one of the best-preserved medieval structures in Syria. Opened in 1956, the museum has been closed over the past number of years and has suffered significant damage to both its building and collections. The project will restore the museum housed within the Cathedral of Our Lady of Tortosa addressing structural issues, restoring essential systems, improving the display and conservation of collections, and strengthening site security so that the museum can be reopened. Requested by the Syrian Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums (DGAM), this initiative supports national priorities to revive regional museums and reconnect communities with their shared history.
