Restoring a Historic Tuberculosis Clinic in the Old City of Aleppo

The historic charitable tuberculosis clinic in the Old City of Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an Ottoman-era courtyard building damaged by conflict, the 2023 earthquake, and looting. It is being rehabilitated by Turquoise Mountain Trust, including the repair of roofs, walls, and traditional wooden structures. Beyond restoring a significant heritage site, the initiative will revive traditional craftsmanship and support local artisans through training in stone carving, plasterwork, and woodwork. Once completed, the building will be returned to the Syrian Society for the Control of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases in Aleppo, where it will once again serve as a charitable clinic, contributing to supporting community health and revitalizing the historic Al-Aqaba neighborhood.
