Safeguarding Beit Hanina village in the Rural Jerusalem
Jerusalem
Beit Hanina’s historic center, with its Ottoman-era Palestinian vernacular architecture, includes nearly 200 heritage buildings, however, it is at risk of deterioration. This goal of this project is to restore and consolidate at least 30 historical structures, including courtyard complexes, through structural repairs, roof insulation, and improved access within the historic core. Implemented in close coordination with property owners and the municipality, the project also includes documentation, capacity-building, and community engagement plans. Ultimately the village’s historic fabric will be safeguarded while promoting its sustainable rehabilitation and reuse.
