Protecting heritage to build peace
Mosul, Iraq, October 16, 2025 – Three iconic monuments in Mosul’s Old City, damaged during the 2014–2017 war, have now been restored. The Al-Raabiya Mosque, the Mar Toma Syriac Orthodox Church, and the Al-Tahira Chaldean Church were inaugurated on 15 October by the Iraqi authorities — the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, the President of the Sunni Waqf, the Governor of Nineveh, the Chaldean and Syriac Orthodox archbishops — as well as local communities and the local and international partners who took part in this revival.
