Protecting heritage to build peace

The ALIPH Foundation Board, chaired by Ms. Bariza Khiari, convened on 27 June 2024 at the invitation of Morocco, a member state of the organization, at the Dar El Bacha Museum of Confluences in Marrakesh. This museum, along with the Museum of Weaving and Carpet Dar Si Saïd and the Museum of Intangible Heritage Jamaâ el-Fna, were damaged by the earthquake on 8 September 2023. Under the stewardship of the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco chaired by Mehdi Qotbi, and with the financial support of ALIPH (totaling USD 1.2 million), these three museums have now been restored or are being restored.

At the meeting, ALIPH launched its first call for projects to protect cultural heritage threatened by climate change in vulnerable countries, and it adopted a dozen new initiatives to protect cultural heritage in conflict zones.
