Protecting heritage to build peace

Lausanne, Switzerland, 29-30 October, 2025 – Recent developments in Syria have opened new opportunities for collaboration on the conservation and rehabilitation of the Site of Palmyra, inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger since 2013. Building upon the First International Conference of Lausanne on Palmyra and the recommendations of the Technical meeting for the Recovery of the World Heritage Site of Palmyra in 2019, University of Lausanne and ALIPH, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums of Syria (DGAM) and UNESCO, are organizing the Second International Conference of Lausanne on Palmyra. This Conference will bring together members of the Syrian community, academics, experts, funders, international institutions and former directors of archaeological missions to Palmyra to reinforce collaboration and reflect on the way forward and plan coordinated actions to support the removal of the Site of Palmyra from the List of World Heritage in Danger.
